Pyotr, a Polish boy from Budapest, has been obsessed with books since childhood, especially one in particular. According to Jewish legend, this book - the Silver Crown - can raise the dead. It is with this book in her arms that Esther, a student from Pest, arrives to restore the tombstone of a rabbi in Krakow. The seemingly endless intrigue begins, seemingly driven by an ancient Jewish spinning game: the trenderli.
